However, forests continue to face increasing pressure from deforestation, land degradation, unsustainable harvesting, wildfires, agricultural expansion, urbanization, and the growing impacts of climate change. These pressures threaten ecosystem health, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on forests for food, energy, income, and cultural values.
Sustainable forest management has become a key strategy for addressing climate change while supporting economic development and environmental conservation. It promotes responsible management of forest resources to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to benefit from healthy forest ecosystems.
This two-week training programme is designed to strengthen participants' knowledge and practical skills in climate change adaptation and mitigation through sustainable forestry management. The programme explores policy, governance, ecosystem restoration, community participation, carbon financing, and innovative approaches to building resilient forest landscapes.
